PRIVACY POLICY
Your record is yours.
Last updated: 22 July 2026
watercraft is built on a simple idea: what you work out for yourself stays yours. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you have over it. We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers, and there is no tracking.
The short version
- We collect only what the app needs to work: your account details, the records you create, and, if you allow it, your location and photos.
- Your sessions, catches, spots and notes are private by default. There is no feed, no leaderboard, no sharing with other anglers.
- We never sell your data and never share it for advertising. We use no analytics or tracking SDKs.
- You can delete your account and all your records at any time, from inside the app or by asking us.
01Who we are
watercraft is a product of Swimbooker Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales ("we", "us", "our"). We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. If you have any question about your data, or want to exercise any of the rights set out below, contact us at hello@watercraft.app.
This policy applies to the watercraft mobile app and to watercraft.app, including where you subscribe on the web.
02The information we collect
We keep collection to the minimum needed to run the service.
Information you give us
- Account information — your name and email address, and a password, so you can create an account, sign in and recover access. Each account is given an internal user ID.
- The records you create — the waters you add, your sessions, catch reports, saved spots, notes and any other content you log. This is the heart of the app, and it belongs to you.
- Photos — if you attach a photo to a catch report, that image is stored against your record. The app only accesses photos you choose to add.
- Messages to us — if you contact support, we keep your message and email address so we can reply.
Information we collect as you use the app
- Location — with your permission, watercraft uses your device location to help you find and add fishing venues and to show your position on lake maps. You can decline this and still use the app; you can change the permission at any time in your device settings.
- Purchase information — a record of what you have purchased (your subscription or Session Passes) so we can give you the access you have paid for. Payment card details are handled by the app stores and our payment provider, not by us — see "Payments" below.
We do not use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, we do not collect an advertising identifier, and we do not build advertising or tracking profiles about you.
03How we use your information
- To provide the app: to create and secure your account, store your records, and give them back to you when you ask.
- To draw lake maps and show venue and position information.
- To manage your membership and process purchases.
- To read your records back to you as patterns over time — this is done for you, from your own data, and is not shared.
- To answer your support messages and, where necessary, tell you about important changes to the service.
- To keep the service secure and to meet our legal obligations.
04Our legal bases
Under UK data protection law we rely on the following bases:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the app and the membership you sign up for.
- Consent — for optional device permissions such as location and photo access. You can withdraw consent at any time by turning the permission off.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the service secure, prevent misuse, and communicate with you about the service, balanced against your rights.
- Legal obligation — where we must retain certain information, for example records relating to payments.
05Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. Your fishing records are never shared with other users. We share limited data only with service providers who help us run watercraft, and only so they can do that:
- App stores and payment providers — Apple (App Store), Google (Google Play) and Stripe handle purchases and process payment details on our behalf. We receive confirmation of a purchase, not your card number.
- Hosting and infrastructure — providers who securely store the app's data so it can sync to your account.
- Google Maps Platform — used to power mapping features. Your use of maps is subject to Google's terms and privacy policy.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users or of Swimbooker Ltd.
06International transfers
Some of our providers may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards — such as UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses — so that your data keeps a similar level of protection.
07How long we keep it
We keep your account and records for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your records, except where we are required to keep certain information for a limited period (for example, to meet legal, tax or accounting obligations, or to resolve disputes). Support messages are kept only as long as needed to deal with your query.
08Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your data ("erasure");
- ask us to restrict or object to certain processing;
- receive a copy of your data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on it.
To exercise any of these, email hello@watercraft.app from the address on your account. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, though we would appreciate the chance to help first.
09Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account and all your records at any time, directly in the app: go to Profile → Privacy & Data → Delete account. This removes your account and the records tied to it. If you would rather we did it for you, send a message from the support page using the email address on your account and we will handle it.
10Security
Your data is encrypted in transit. We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect it against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No system is ever completely secure, but we take the safekeeping of your record seriously.
11Age
watercraft is intended for anglers aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will remove it.
12Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make a material change we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, let you know in the app. Continuing to use watercraft after a change means you accept the updated policy.
13Contact
Questions about privacy, or about anything in this policy, come to a person: hello@watercraft.app.
Private by default, the only default that makes sense.
